I did WHAT now?

I'm just back from an 8.5. mile run. It felt good, mainly because the weather was MUCH more accommodating than last week. So what did I do? I registered for the Chicago Marathon. I know. Damn you, runner's high! Damn you all to hell. And if you're thinking that just because I registered doesn't mean that I have to run it, it was $110. I'm running it.

I know! It just felt so good this morning and then I had this crazy thought that 8.5 miles is like almost a third of the way to a marathon, which, strictly speaking, it is, only physically and physiologically 26 miles is WAY harder than just three times 8 or 9 miles. Fact.

I think I'm REALLY gonna need the yoga, which I did THREE TIMES this week, twice in class and once on my own. I also did the self-massage with a foam roll, which sounds way dirtier than it is.

When is it?

I couldn't run even a quarter of that, even if someone was chasing me with a gun.

I have to look again (you know how I am with dates), but I think it's Oct. 12. That's enough time to train as long as I can keep my tired ass healthy.

cool!
just work it out as so many dollars per mile and it doesn't sound so bad.

Bluebunny, I have a feeling I'll need the cheering around August even more than October. Thanks!

Oof! Go Michael! Drink water early. Get in a zone. It's more than your body and training- it's all mental -at least miles 18-24 are. And prepare to cry after you cross the finish line. A good emotional cry, like you do every time you watch Beaches.

Jesse, yes, oof. I have done one previous marathon, but that was nine years ago (even then I was probably older than you are now). It's exactly as you say. There's the physical part, yo, but what's at least as important is to ease my way into it until suddenly a 12-15 mile run ain't nothin' but a thang.
