And these children that you spit on as they try to change their worlds

I am not an advocate for frequent changes in laws and constitutions, but laws and institutions must go hand in hand with progress of the human mind. As that becomes more developed, more enlightened, as new discoveries are made, new truths discovered and manners and opinions change, with the change of circumstances, institutions must advance also to keep pace with the times. We might as well require a man to wear still the coat which fitted him when a boy as civilized society to remain ever under the regimen of their barbarous ancestors.
That's Thomas Jefferson. You know, one of those Founding Fathers so often cited when someone is trying to justify NOT changing things from the way they were envisioned a few hundred years ago.

It's like those crazy right-wing evangelicals do - choose passages from the bible to suit their purpose, ignore all of the other thoughts that don't match up with the way things "ought" to be.

True dat, Madds. I like how they gloss over the fact that Jesus never says a word about homosexuality. Not one word. Something tells me that if he embraced the hookers and the lepers, he'd be down with the homos. Not that I really care, mind you, but they do, so they're forced to go all Old Testament on our asses....a Bronze Age text written by some old dudes who claimed to have God speaking in their heads. Hmmmmm.

I think Jesus, at least as he's reported in their cute stories, had a great message. If they actually followed it, I think it'd be awesome. But since they pervert it, and have used it to kill, conquer and subjugate for like a few thousand years, it sucks big whanger.
