How long must we sing this song?

1. I slept in. Can 6:30A be deemed "sleeping in?" I watched a few episodes of Angel off the TiVo (I'm watching the entire series run again on TNT....right now Cordelia is the Princess of Pylea......oh, and break me off a piece of Groosalugg, will ya?), then picked up the Sunday paper and read it while sipping this fab spiced coffee from Trader Joe's. No, it's not FLAVORED coffee, they just throw the spices in. There's cinnamon and cloves and peppercorns and I'm not sure what else. It's del.

2. I decided my bedding needs something. I wasn't sure what, but I thought if I browsed it would come to me. The black and tones of grey motif was great in my old bedroom with its white pepper walls and white picture molding. This new place of mine is a veritable SEA OF CARAMEL. Seemed soothing at first, but now I know I'm not a BATHED IN CARAMEL guy. Anyway, are you seeing chocolate and grey together everywhere like I am? I picked up a great striped pillow at west elm. Now I just need the right shams.

3. I lunched on a mouth-wateringly good salad, rife with pears and pecans and an insouciant cherry vinaigrette. Do you mind restaurant dining alone? If I have something good to read, I'm fine with it. I finished My Lucky Star by Joe Keenan over lunch. It's a scream. The blurbs are peppered with "P.G. Wodehouse" and "Preston Sturges" and "Noel Coward" and at least 50% of the main characters are hilarious and catty queers. 'Nuff said.

4. I ran five miles at a comfortable pace listening mostly to Mika. I'm torturing myself with Mika because, in a fit of fiscal responsibility, I bailed out on seeing him in NYC on Saturday. And now Freakgirl has apprised me of the concert details and they are KILLING ME. Blarg!

5. I felt a thorough, relaxed cleansing was in order, so I did an energizing Vitamin C peel on my face, and then soaked for 20 minutes in a steaming bath redolent of the seaside.

6. There's nothing like sushi for dinner to leave me feeling both LIGHT and NOURISHED. And breathing free (I lean toward excess on the wasabi).

7. I finished off the night with more reading--a few magazines and The Omnivore's Dilemma. Anyone read it? Not my usual fare, but it comes highly recommended.

There then. Just a typical Super Bowl Sunday, right? I'm sure my dad did something similar.

Sounds like a great day.

Mmmmm, sushi.

I still can't believe you missed Mika. :(

Wow, you sure know how to fit a lot in a day! I love taking a day to myself like that.

I saw Juno on Saturday. LOVED.

I met Joe Keenan once (he's the brother of a woman I work with -- she got him to get me on the guest list for a taping of Frasier when I was in LA) and he was super nice.

Freakgirl, salmon and tuna and eel, oh my! It's KILLING me that I missed the show.

Maddie, practically every day is like that for me. It's called "not many friends!" I knew you'd have fun at Juno. Jason Bateman, even when he's kind of a snake....want.

Mindy, that's awesome. He's hilarious, and it's nice to hear he's sweet, too. I just ordered one of his earlier books off bn.com.

Yesterday I saw a girl with a stupid-looking hat on the train platform. I realized it was a Giants hat.

Then I realized I didn't know which other team was in the Super Bowl. But I didn't actually care enough to find out.

As the person who benefited from your fit of fiscal responsibility - I thank you...and thank you...and thank you

My days like that are "friends back in PA not so much in FL." :)

Jason Bateman. I KNOW! So hot.

sounds idyllic....but then anything involving West Elm and "catty queens" sounds idyllic to me.

FP, you didn't even know the teams? That's aspirational for me. Someday!

BB, bitch. ;-)

Maddie, mine are still here, it's just that they are married with 2.5 kids. NOT running in the same circles anymore.

Jason, west elm makes me want to ditch all my stuff and start over.

was that salad at Paneras? Sounds just like the Orchard Salad I've been living on....

Yes, Sherri, with chicken added. I'm obsessed.

Mmm...Angel. That's all I have to say.

Can't believe you haven't read Keenan's earlier books already... they would be SO up your alley (pun entirely at your own discretion)... Get them both, My Blue Heaven and Putting on the Ritz... I love, love, love, love them!!! :)

Samuel, I think I'm liking it even more this time around, if that's possible. FUNNIER than I remember.

Yani, why didn't you tell me?! What's bad is I almost bailed on it after fifty pages, but it was just getting started. I ordered Blue Heaven first. I also ordered David Leavitt's book on Alan Turing. I finally read his The Lost Language of Cranes a few weeks and I'm MAD for it.

Dude, I read the Alan Turing book by Leavitt late last year! It was an ok read, I would say "interesting, not thrilling, but interesting".

It poured down here all day on Sunday so I sat in, had a mini Firefly/Serenity Convention with the DVD player as guest of honour, knitted and didn't even bother showering until late afternoon. It was kind of great.

Michael said...

The Leavitt book is already on order, so I'll see. I like his style and I'm all about misunderstood genius, so......

Your day sounds fab. If I'd done that, I'd be saying "No power in the 'verse can stop me" all week. More than usual.

Actually I've been saying "Cap'n, for the longest time I ain't had nothing twixt my nethers that wasn't run on batteries", much to the surprise (and alarm) of my co-workers at the Big Christian Charity.

Michael said...

Mmmhmm. You think it's the "Cap'n" that throws 'em?

The Other Andrew said...

Maybe? Could be the batteries reference, because I'm normally more of a hand-crank kind of guy.

I love all Joe Keenan books, especially Puttin on the Ritz. I was so glad to see Lucky Star show up after such a long gap.

Blue Heaven just came in the mail today, Mr. P. I'll have to put Ritz on my list.
