I started this book a few weeks ago, and due to circumstances both trivial and profound, I put it down. I started again on Sunday and finished it by the early evening. What can I say about it? A boy, a man, the apocalypse, and the truths of life distilled. How's that? It's one of the best things I've ever read. Cormac McCarthy has a preternatural gift, yo.ADDED ON 3/29: Looks like Oprah agrees. It's quite a departure for her, but she selected it for her book club on 3/28.

I knew you'd like it, ME. One person in my book club said she was glad she read it, but never wanted to think about it again...so she gave me her copy. How weird is that? I gave it to one of my brightest students and asked him to read it.
Tim laughs because I get teary-eyed just telling him what happens in the book. Damn, it's good.
Oh, and I just bought the new Ian McEwan--full report soon, though it's a thin one, so I worry.
Max? All the way from (oh god, where's my Venn diagram?) the British Isles Max? Holla! I knew I'd like it, too, as your recs never let me down, but I wasn't prepared for how this book would move me. I'm thinking of starting again and I never do that. How can something so spare and stark be so rich?

I bought "The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter" by Carson McCullers oh, let me see, 10 YEARS AGO maybe and just finally started reading it this morning. Some things can't be rushed.
Damn....I've had "The Road" since it came out and started it one night but just wasn't in the mood and put it down. The Max's review popped up and now this. I can't withstand the pressure...I'll read it, I'll read it. Sheesh, you guys are relentless.

You flatter me, kid. I have to be honest, though. You'll have to go to the true source for that...the spring from which all great book recommendations bubble up. Max is the literary font (and I'm fairly certain it's not comic sans).
PS I'm sure the new Ian McEwan is gonna be on my short list, Beau. MAD for him. It's not available here yet, but intrepid traveler (and the aforementioned font) Max is reading it right now whilst in the British Isles.
