You think the only people who are people are the people who look and think like you

I know I've been gone for a week, and I have SO MANY things I wanna share, kitten, but I can't not put this video up. I thought the whole Grey's Anatomy faggot brouhaha was overblown, but as evidenced in this interview, it was obviously a very hurtful incident for TR Knight. And still is. I don't really care if you call me a faggot, but some do. We can all afford to watch what we say. Seriously, could you love him any more? (via)

ADDED: Whilst on the TV tip, for those who missed this trifecta of delicious casting tidbits, I feel compelled to note that Christopher Eccleston will be joining our Heroes, while Tim Gunn and Kathy Griffin will be making guest appearances on Ugly Betty. Yay, yay and yay! Oh crap, I just realized I forgot to stalk Tim Gunn while I was in New York last week.

call me nuts, but if you're a 30ish actor on a successful program and the worst thing someone ever does to you is call you a name, i think you're doing pretty damn well. Sure it stings, sure it's upsetting, but this was months ago now. Isn't it time to get some perspective? Whatever happened to "sticks and stones...?"

I disagree. I think TR was over it when it happened, but because it was brought up again during the Golden Globes, a time when they all should have been celebrating their win, Isaiah again used the word "faggot" and denied that he ever said it in the first place.

People are asking TR about it because that's their job in the media. I don't think he is acting like, for example, Jennifer Aniston or Nick Lachey, who cannot shut up about how they were wronged by their husband/wife.

CB, Freakgirl is right. TR was all class when this happened months ago. He came out, saying that he hoped being gay wasn't the most interesting thing about him. That was that. Where things went really wrong was the other night at the Golden Globes when Isaiah Washington brought it up again, saying "faggot" again, while denying he ever said it in the first place (despite the rest of the cast saying he did). Washington should have apologized then or certainly SHUTUP now, probably both. You may not have been aware of IW's Golden Globes comments, which really do put a different spin on the whole affair.

Fair dues. It seems then that the media isn't doing the lad any favors by constantly dregging the incident up again and reminding him of it. For one thing, they're rewarding IW with a bunch of free publicity for his trouble, and it really is true about no publicity being bad publicity.

I think T.R. explains it pretty clearly when he said on Ellen:

"...You know, I think when it happened, I've never been called it, and you know you go through things in life and you lose friends when you go through the process-- whatever your journey is-- but I've never been called that to my face. So, I think when that happened something shifted and it became bigger, you know what I mean, than myself. I look to people like you (Ellen)... to your bravery, and other people's bravery, and you're just really grateful for that because I could've just let it slide and not said anything but it became important."

I think it would really hurt to have one of your peers, someone you work with almost daily, turn around and make a slur like this. It may not seem that harmful a word to some, but if you've gone through a personal struggle to not be judged for being gay then it could be very hurtful indeed. It doesn't just mean 'gay', but all the negative associations with gayness. It's aimed to hurt. I think he diffused the situation in a way by say "yes I'm gay, no biggie" - if only Washington hadn't been such a dick.

CB, I think you're right that the media is more than happy to flog this, but I think Ellen was just giving him the opportunity to air his side, after IW chose to stir the mostly calmed pot. I think it was IW trying to rehab his image, which has obviously backfired.

Andrew, I have to agree. When I said I wouldn't mind so very much having that word directed at me, I was picturing it coming from someone who didn't mean anything to me. If TR had considered this guy his friend, or at least felt he was respected by him as a peer and a professional, I can see where it would be hurtful and even shocking. When I reframe it in my head, imagining it coming from someone I trust or admire, it's a much different scenario. That said, Christopher Eccleston is gonna be on Heroes!

How nice for you Michael. Missing NY already, I'm guessing.

Miss it? You have no idea. Six days of luxury hotel living, good food, four museums, five Broadway shows, and then fill in the slow spots with shopping...all while surrounded (surrounded!) by homos....and Freakgirl!
