It's hard out here for a pimp

I saw No Country For Old Men today. Here are a few impressions:

1. Watching this movie is as close as you'll get to reading a Cormac McCarthy novel without actually reading one. The language is precise and gorgeous, but if you're looking for tidy, this isn't your country, old man.
2. Even though it's McCarthy's voice, the Coen brothers' stamp is unmistakable.
3. Javier Bardem or Tommy Lee Jones, or possibly both, will be nominated for an Oscar, and deservedly so.
4. This movie contains some of the most suspenseful scenes I've experienced in a theater. Part of it is you learn early on that graphic violence will occur with no notice.
5. The other part is that Javier Bardem creates a screen villain for the ages in Anton Chigurh.
6. It's easily one of the best films I've seen this year, friend-o.

Maybe not, then. It's good, but intense.

I love your movie reviews - consider it on the list!

It sounds quite intense, and the killing without notice reminds me of one of my favorites - The Departed. Very on edge and you don't see anything coming.

Maddie, think The Departed meets Fargo maybe.

You see anything good lately?

The Departed meets Fargo? Color me intrigued.

Well, I've been so busy that I haven't had time to see anything in the theater (that is killing me to wait) but I saw a few rentals -

The Namesake - very interesting, I'm fascinated by Indian cultures anyway, but the 2 main actors that play Kal Penn's parents are so great. Worth a watch.

Waitress - I finally saw this last week, Keri Russell is so fantastic in it - such a perfect, subtle performance and Nathan Fillion I love! The dialogue was so crisp and hilarious. I think I have to buy that one.

Waiting for Superbad to arrive this weekend, along with Interview - which I've been dying to see.

As for what's coming up - I must see Atonement and Juno. Both look fantastic - and Atonement being directed by Joe Wright who did Pride and Prejudice (my favorite movie) with Keira and James McAvoy being in it is just yummy. Haven't read the book yet, but I think reading it now would just ruin the movie experience. I'll catch it after.
