That almost makes me wanna take up cross-stitch, but I'd definitely put it on a flouncy, ruffly pillow. You know, so it would blend with my decor. There are more.

Cross-stitching ROCKS! I'm half-way through a project of Mucha's "Medea" that I scanned and had converted to a pattern. I can honestly say that the slow, methodical wave of pushing and pulling thread during boring TV nights is really soothing. I found it much more doable than knitting but that's just me.

Nothing to learn. You just buy the materials and follow the pattern. I'll take a picture of the piece I'm working on and send it to you so you can see what I'm talking about.

shit i wish i'd thought of that! i've been x-stitching for donkey's years, but all i ever do are floral designs. i'll be changing the focus of my work now.
(I also like crochet for keeping the hands busy while watching tv or movies. very mindless, crochet.)
Oh, I started crossstitch year's ago: I was planning on 6 chair seats in a lyre/lute neoclassic motif.
The BF got a nice keyfob out of my efforts.
I haven't crossstitched in YEARS... although I did design a couple of my own patterns at one point (looking back on them now, they are kind of clunky looking)... but I totally agree with beau... the whole pushing and pulling of needle and thread is very soothing. These almost make me want to take it up again...
I saw one on the wall at the hospital the other day. Pretty, petite and three dimensional feeling. It was little red robins flitting in a tree. Good for Yaniboy finding it soothing. I am much too impatient and even gave my sister one to finish, a Christmas snow scene one i had started for the tree. It was only a circle the size of your palm. She did a good job.
When I was in grade school, our librarian started a needlepoint tapestry project with all of the voracious readers. Each kid would read a book that had won a Newbery Medal, design a tapestry based on the plot, stitch it, and then Mrs. J would hang it in the library. I think I did 3 or 4 of them. I wonder if they're still there...
Cross-stitch is my calming hobby. I've made a few big ones for my friends and family. I have about 4 huge projects waiting to be done, or I would buy those patterns!
