Slice up the fruitcake!

It's December this weekend, y'all! Time to cue up the Christmas tunes. I'm dying to know your favorites. Mine? So so many, but I think my most cherished holiday song is "We Need A Little Christmas" from Mame. Imagine that-- a showtune. Yeah, I know. You're plotzing.

If you're looking for something more contemporary, you really can't go wrong with the Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS Holiday CD. All the Broadway companies record songs every year for this compilation. I've been buying it for the last few years and it's always a fun mix of traditional and decidedly non-traditional fare. And your twenty bucks goes to a good cause. You can buy it here.

You? Like musicals?! Get out!

"Merry Christmas, Darling" by The Carpenters is my favorite. I can't get enough of Karen Carpenter's voice.

Followed closely by "All I Want for Christmas is You," "White Christmas" and "Jingle Bell Rock."

I just put up my tree - something about finding all the decorations that you haven't seen in a year and didn't even remember having - so fun.

Mmmm, great song, Maddie. There are some strong and sad associations for me every time I hear Karen Carpenter.

Since you offered seconds and thirds, I will. How about "Snow" from White Christmas? Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye and Rosemary Clooney and whoever they used to dub Vera-Ellen....so good. Oh, to see a great big man entirely made of snow! I remember watching that movie every year.

Hmmm, I love Andy Williams' singing "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" because my Mom does, and would play it over and over.

Whitney Houston's "Do You Hear What I Hear" gives me goosebumps.

I have to stop. So glad your halls are decked, M, and here's hopin' there's kissing under your mistletoe this year!

We just put up our tree. That's all, though. No lights or anything. Maybe tomorrow. We lazy.

Today I heard "Donde Esta Santa Claus" and it made me very happy.

ROFLOL @ Freakgirl

Now THAT'S gotta be my favourite blog line this week, and it's only Monday!

I have a few favourites, some that come and go, some what just stay...

Carol of the Bells, so long as it's done with just voices...

Oh Christmas Tree...

The Twelves Days of Christmas as performed by the Disney characters (it all ends up in a big fight at the end thanks to Donald), which is very much a childhood classic...

That's about it as far as the perennial faves go though...

it's not my favorite, far from it, in fact. But for everyone else, when you hear the Charlie Brown xmas music, which I heard in a store yesterday, don't you just get horribly, horribly depressed? a few bars, and I feel like there's no need to bother making it to xmas.

Hands down favorite is Bing Crosby and David Bowie singing Peace on Earth and Little Drummer Boy.

And yes, chips - the Charlie Brown Christmas music makes me unbelievably depressed.

Bing. White Christmas.

No contest!

In The Bleak Midwinter seems to be the 'favorite tune' of the season nowadays.

Thanks. I love those clips. I especially love that George Michael walks past a white dog laying on top of a red doghouse.

I totally agree. Christmas can be sad enough without dirge-like theme music. That's why I need upbeat, preferably with choreography.

On the other hand, Bluebunny, that Bing/Bowie song is like a toasty warm hug.
