Open your door, I'll be your tenant

I know we just talked about Rent a few days ago, but all week I've had the soundtrack playing in my house and in my car and in my buds (except for the times when Max is in the hizzay). Is it a work of genius? Uh-uh. Greatness? Not really. There are SO MANY lines in there that I cherish, though.

There's only us, there's only this, forget regret, or life is yours to miss. No other road, no other way, no day but today.

Share love, give love, spread love, measure your life in love.

Without you, without you the hand gropes, the ear hears, the pulse beats. Without you, the eyes gaze, the legs walk, the lungs breathe, the mind churns! The heart yearns! The tears dry, without you. Life goes on, but I’m gone.

To being an us for once, instead of a them, la vie Boheme! To sodomy, it's between God and me, to S&M, la vie Boheme!

So let's find a bar so dark we forget who we are...where all the scars from the nevers and maybes die.

Take me for what I am, who I was meant to be, and if you give a damn, take me baby, or leave me.

I should tell you, I should tell you I'm looking for baggage that goes with mine.

Live in my house, I'll be your shelter, just pay me back with one thousand kisses. Be my lover , I'll cover you. Open your door, I'll be your tenant. Don't got much baggage to lay at your feet, but sweet kisses I've got to spare. I'll be there, I'll cover you.

There's only now, there's only here, give in to love, or live in fear. No other path. no other way, no day but today...

What? No, I'm not crying. Shutup. There's something in my eye.

Yeah, there is a whole lotta cliche in there, but who cares? Why is cliche so bad? It's tried and true, muthafuckas. I must admit that part of the goodness of these words is that they are sung by men in love and women in love and women and men in love and people living while dying....while in love. And they come in a movie that made me feel like an us instead of a them. I said shutup!

Just now I was washing my car and Jesse L Martin/Collins was wistfully singing about Santa Fe in my ears. He was kinda growling it in parts, especially at the end. Do you know the way to Santa Fe...tumbleweeds...prairie dogs....yeeaaaahhhh. Made me arch back a little. What was that about? He's teh hotness, yes?

The soundtrack for the broadway version lives in my car. I love it so much. I play it whenever I have a long road trip, or just want to sing out loud to something - I purposely learned every word to La Vie Boheme because that is my favorite song - it feels awesome to sing that out loud.

9 years ago, the original cast was on the Today Show and they sang Seasons of Love - that was it for me. It gave me chills then, and it still does. There's something about a good song...no matter how cliched the words are...it lasts.

Um, on a less deep note - yes, Jessie L. Martin's voice on the soundtrack is extremely hot. :)

Maddie, we TOTALLY need to see this together someday. Where are you? I know I said some of the sentiments are cliched, but as I said, I love them despite (or maybe because of) it. While I don't know ALL THE WORDS (seriously?) to La Vie Boheme, that don't stop me from rockin' out on it. "We're close.....Brothers!"

So sweet and poignant when he's singing at the funeral...but still sexy, Jesse is. So low. Husky. ::gulp::

I would LOVE to see it with someone who loves it as much as I do!! I'm afraid I'm far from you though. I'm in Southeastern PA...near Philadelphia. You're in Ohio somewhere? Well, if you are ever in the PA/NJ area, let me know!

Seriously, I know all the words. I know, ODD. My second fave song (besides Seasons) is Light My Candle. "You wanna dance?
With you? No, with my father..."

Well that does it, I'm totally going to go see it AGAIN this weekend. Michael, that "There's only us, there's only this, forget regret, or life is yours to miss. No other road, no other way, no day but today." gets me every time. Puts the ol' sting right in the eyeball.

maddie, we'll have to meet up for cocktails at freakgirl's and then into the city for an evening of RENT. Or maybe cocktails, a matinee of RENT, and then more cocktails. Your call.

charlie, can I say that I love the idea of putting a sting in your eye?

And that line you highlighted is one that I've been singing in the shower and in the car and at the gym (to myself) and ....

Oh, Rent on broadway, my favorite! Cocktails are always a good idea, especially while hanging in the best city ever. :)

::growlin' in my lowest possible tenor:: Prairie dawwwwwwwwwwwgs
::yep still growlin' out just that line::

Every once in a while.

Shocks the hell out of some folk. And I give'em my chocolate-brown-smilin'-eyed Jesse look. Hah!

chocolate-brown-smilin'-eyed Jesse look

You're so good at putting my feelings into words. His eyes smile. In the beginning of 'Santa Fe' when he says, "Now you're talkin'...." and then that laugh. Damn. That laugh alone has me leakin'. Can I say that?

Still picturing you growling prairie daawwwwwgs in the ladies room, in line for coffee, on public transportation. I'll try it.
