Anyone for tennis? Wouldn't that be nice?

While we're on the subject of videos, if you are looking for something good, you won't go wrong with either The Family Stone or Match Point. Especially with Match Point, which was easily one of the ten best things I've seen in the last year or so. I blog-raved about it already, but if you're not a Woody Allen fan, don't let that frighten you off. It's not his typical stuff. Jonathan Rhys Meyers (a current IT boy for the gays) is phenomenal in this, as is Scarlett Johansson. And I also posted about The Family Stone already, but I feel the need to reiterate that the trailer was a stinker and the movie is quite good. At turns funny and poignant, I was charmed. I'm a sucka for family holiday fare, though. Doesn't it seem like there's something in it for me if I can convince you to check these out? I just want you to be happy, darling. What am I watching? How sweet of you to ask. Well, besides the aforementioned BBM (first time on video, third time overall), not a lot of movies. I'm finishing Season 2 of QAF, then on to the last season of SFU. None of that tonight though, since it's a FEAST of my favorite tv shows. Alias is on opposite TAR and the second part of an amazing House episode is on opposite Lost. It's TiVos and VCRs a-whirrin' at chez ME tonight. Take that all of you with your fancy real lives!

What, getting completely involved in a million shows and movies isn't a real life? :) I have a problem then.

Wow, do we have the same taste in shows or what? Damn. My tivo will be working overtime as well. Alias, House and Lost, I'm in tv heaven.

I have Match Point from netflix at home ready to be watched. I may do that before all the shows tonight. I'm a big fan of Woody Allen movies, especially Annie Hall. I don't expect MP to be anything like his usual movies though, it sounds interesting.

The Family Stone is really good. I especially loved Luke Wilson. The preview showed a completely different, ridiculous movie, which is not what it is at all. Really touching and funny. It reminded me of one of my all-time favorite family holiday films, Home for the Holidays. Complete classic.

Also, finally got Capote in the mail to me from Netflix today. Can't wait.

Maddie, I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together. I feel close to you, so I figure I can bust out some I Am The Walrus on your ass. Of course I LOVE Home For The Holidays. The Family Stone actually owes quite a debt to HftH, no? Capote AND Matchpoint on tap from Netflix? I'm kinda jealous. OK, really jealous. Oh, we'd have fun watching those together...maybe giving each other manis and pedis at intermission.

You can bust out the Beatles anytime, they are one of my favorite bands ever.

Of course I LOVE Home For The Holidays.

Of course you do. Why would I even think you didn't see that and love it? Do you love all things Robert Downey Jr. too (he was my most favorite part of HftH), or is that pushing our similarities? :)

Quite a few things in HftH are similar to The Family Stone. That's probably why I loved it so.

Wasn't House great last night? I was so glad they were concluding the 2-parter tonight...that was just too suspenseful to wait a week.

We really need to watch some movies together sometime. Anytime you're in the PA area (or Florida if I ever decide to move)! ;)

I have two dvd recommendations for you: Nine Lives and Murderball. Both excellent.

Murderball is sitting on my TiVo right now, and The Family Stone is on my hard drive. Hopefully I will catch up on my movies this weekend.

Last weekened, incidentally, we saw Thumbsucker. Really interesting, I thought. Anyone else?

Sweetie darling sweetie, even those of us living life abundantly in the very heartbeat of internationally acclaimed and renowned cities like nothing better at times then to come home and snuggle under the covers of ones boudoir, turn on ones large screen TV and entertainment system, and watch a good DVD.

I have been really getting into and enjoying some music lately. I don't actually recall the last time I either bought or listened to a CD, so last century really. I much prefer the music DVD, so I can both listen and watch the video clip. Fabulous.

Although my DVD music collection goes further than this, at the core of my viewing pleasure of late has been the likes of the best video collections from people such as Kylie MInogue, Madonna, Erasure, Abba, Backstreet Boys, Westlife, Steps, S Club 7 and Blue.

And did you know that I also now have no less than 27 gay themed DVD movies/shows to watch for my repeated viewing pleasure:

Absolutely Fabulous
Queer as Folk - US
Queer as Folk - UK
Angels in America
Head On
Summer Storm
The Sum of Us
Kiss me Guido
Y TU Mama Tambien
Get Real
The Wedding Banquet
Threesome
Food of Love
Eating Out
The Birdcage
Priscilla Queen of the Desert
Hedwig
Luster
The Broken Hearts Club
My Own Private Idaho
Cowboys and Angels
The Rocky Horror Picture Show
But I'm a Cheerleader
Camp
All Over the Guy
Latter Days
Mambo Italiano

Before I leave you, I must share a song from a DVD I was watching last night that seems to have stuck in my head. I had to almost repress myself from softly humming and singing it on my morning commute. I may have failed. The cute boy sitting behind me on the bus gave me a knowing smile when I got off (the bus, *rolls eyes*, the BUS).

Half past twelve
And I'm watching the late show in my flat all alone
How I hate to spend the evening on my own
Autumn winds
Blowing outside my window as I look around the room
And it makes me so depressed to see the gloom
There's not a soul out there
No one to hear my prayer

Gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight
Won't somebody help me chase the shadows away
Gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight
Take me through the darkness to the break of the day

Movie stars
Find the end of the rainbow, with a fortune to win
It's so different from the world I'm living in
Tired of T.V.
I open the window and I gaze into the night
But there's nothing there to see, no one in sight
There's not a soul out there
No one to hear my prayer

Gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight
Won't somebody help me chase the shadows away
Gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight
Take me through the darkness to the break of the day

Gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight...
Gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight...

There's not a soul out there
No one to hear my prayer

Gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight
Won't somebody help me chase the shadows away
Gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight
Take me through the darkness to the break of the day
Gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight
Won't somebody help me chase the shadows away
Gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight
Take me through the darkness to the break of the day

Hmmmm .... and now having said all of that it seems as though moi might have answered that long asked question of 'is it possible to be too gay?' Obviously thats a big, screaming, glitterball and sequinned, resounding and fabulous, 'NO!'

freakgirl ~ I've had Thumbsucker on my list of movies to watch forever. I'll have to finally watch it now, if not just because Keanu Reeves is in it.

maggie ~ As far as great Woody Allen movies, I love Annie Hall. That should be #1 on your list. Mighty Aphrodite and Bullets Over Broadway are quite good too. Manhattan is still on my need-to-see list.

bodhi ~ I love your list! I've seen most of those...do you not own Trick?

Bodhi said...

Maddie, Trick is not yet available on Region 4 (Australia), but I will be sure to get a copy when it does. I checked it out, looks good!

Yeah, yeah, I could get a multi-region player ... but I can't be bothered when I already own a perfectly good DVD player.

That list is being added to all the time.

Maggie, if you're still around here, don't feel too bad, because I've never heard of Thumbsucker and haven't seen Murderball. I agree with Maddie that Annie Hall is the place to start getting your Woody on, but Manhattan is right up there. Do check out Matchpoint though. So fun.

freakgirl, so is Thumbsucker worth it?

Maddie, that House episode was GREAT. I always enjoy it, but that is right up there with the best of them. When Fourman stuck Cameron with that old needle! I was plotzing. I might ask freakgirl if we can have a TMFT topic on House.

Bodhi, I bet I haven't seen even 1/3 of your gay movie murderer's row. That sound you hear is my membership being downgraded. I guess if I make it to Sydney this winter (next summer), we might have to cuddle and remedy that one afternoon.

Bodhi said...

If you indeed do make it to Sydney this winter, there will be no guess or might involved. That cuddle date is a forgone conclusion, sweetie. M'kay.
